Design Competition: Education Evolved

DESIGN COMPETITION (noun) dɪˈzaɪn kÉ’mpɪˈtɪʃn

A high-intensity industry-simulation event, in  which students adopt professional roles, are given industry specific challenges, and deliver real-world solutions.

The Challenge Students Face

Educators and parents know that the modern school curriculum isn't flexible enough to deliver the soft skills and dynamic education that 21st century students need to succeed in the modern workplace. Curriculum is designed to ensure knowledge retention and support discipline-specific problem solving.

Modern careers require more. They require students to be able to manage complex, multi-variate problems with no single, clearly-defined solution. They must manage competing priorities and resource to optimize for the best possible outcome; all while doing so within large teams and via intricate communications pathways.

Design Competitions are a unique format of delivering career-based education to students. One that is giving students unparalleled insights into their future career paths, and setting them up for long-term success in college, trade school, and their professional careers.

"Design Competitions are a textbook example of Project Based Learned (PBL). We provide an open-ended challenge for students to creatively problem solve.  They pursue deeper understanding to overcome challenges. Students learn communication, collaboration, and resilience as they struggle as part of a larger team to design and present their space infrastructure."

Mr Ty White, AZ Rural Teacher of the Year (2023)
